Ending Monday Morning Atheism

A long-time supporter of the iWork4Him Mission and multiple guest – Doug Spada with WorkLife – was with us this afternoon to talk more about his mission of helping folks bring their Sundays into their Mondays. Get some great advice and learn how to THRIVE at work in this vibrant podcast.

As Christians, we have a great propensity to come to church and engage with God on Sunday, but when we get to work on Monday, we flip a switch and turn off our beliefs. This habit is something that Doug defines as the “Monday Morning Atheist Mentality,” or when someone loves God but sometimes works like God doesn’t exist.

But what if God cares more about Monday than Sunday?

Although we are called to gather together for corporate worship, we are also called by God into the Great Commission: to go and make disciples. The reality is that work is a HUGE part of people’s lives, and the better we stay switched on, the more we can accomplish for the Kingdom of God. Every Christian is an extension of the Church into the culture – and when the Church works to grow on Monday, it automatically will grow on Sunday.

WorkLife’s study, the Monday Switch, is a fast-paced, video-driven study to help you engage in faith all week long. Churches who practice engaging in “work-life” have increased tithing, increased volunteerism, and increased joy because they help their members find God’s purpose and an answer for the question, “why do I work?”

Workplace Ministry in San Antonio

Today we are broadcasting LIVE from San Antonio, Texas with Bill Peel from The Center for Faith and Work, and the Executive Director of Biblical Leadership for Excellence, Joe Carroll. We talk a lot around here about the “Workplace Mission Field”, and today we get some insights from Bill and Joe on this essential topic.

Equipping Christ-followers to bring the gospel to their workplace could increase the Church’s missional footprint by 25! And one great way to bring Christ into your workplace is through launching a BLE group or by reading Joe’s inspired book, “Experiencing God in Your Work”.

Os Hillman is a Marketplace Leader

We had the honor of having our good friend, Os Hillman, back on-air with us for a lengthy chat on Life and Faith – and how to put God first in both. Os went through a season of crisis that pivoted his view of God's purpose for him as a writer and speaker. Out of this season came his first book, "The Upside of Adversity," and the start of his FREE daily devotional, "Today God is First" or "TGIF."

In this show, Os talks with us about how God often uses adversity as a catalyst to usher us into the larger story of our life. Every great leader making a Kingdom impact has had a moment in their life that forced them to get out of the way so that God could be at the forefront. Adversity moves us from who we are to someone who can be used more effectively for God's purpose.

Os also gave us a primer on the 2019 "Culture Shapers Summit," where 350 leaders and business owners came together to connect, collaborate, pray, and mobilize. Here, they discussed how the simplest way to influence the seven mountains of culture is through everyday workers, business, and employees. Os says that most people sell themselves short – they don't think of their positions' spiritual nature. But if you solve a problem in someone's life or in the community, you gain influence as a byproduct. If we, as the body of Christ, can start strategically thinking about how to serve well and solve everyday problems, we will gain influence that can be turned towards the Gospel.

Work on Purpose

We were on the road LIVE from the great city of Cincinnati, Ohio to talk with Chuck Proudfit about his ministry – At Work on Purpose – and learn how God’s moving in Cinci. Chuck spent most of his career in a corporate setting until he read Rick Warren’s “A Purpose Driven Life” back in 2003 and thought, “where is the Purpose Driven Work?” The reality is that we spend most of our lives at our jobs…  so how can we bring our faith into that space?

When Chuck started At Work on Purpose it was simply a dozen people meeting bi-weekly to support one another in living out their faith. But soon it grew from a dozen people, to hundreds, to thousands, to a full-blown spiritual network of influence across the greater Cincinnati area. How? By addressing the five overarching spiritual struggles of believers in the workplace: Sacred vs Secular; Calling vs Career; Righteousness vs Compromise; Growth vs Stagnation; and Stewardship vs Ownership. At Work on Purpose addresses these five struggles with practical, biblical solutions so that we can grow the Church through work.

Remember, no matter what our position is, our real employer is the Lord and our real assignment is ministry. Check out this podcast to hear how YOU can work on purpose.

An Intro to the Barnabas Group

It was Day 3 of our expansion in Jacksonville (!!!) and today we brought in Becky Turner to talk about the Barnabas Group, which is focused on matching our God-given natural gifts, talents, and abilities – the ones we use all day long – with a local, Christ-centered non-profit in YOUR area of the country.

Becky is the National Managing Partner for the Barnabas Group – a place that matches up the skills, gifts, and talents of individuals and marketplace leaders with ministries and non-profits that need help. In other words, “they set the table and invite people in.” If you are interested in engaging your talents for the Kingdom – you won’t want to miss this one!

Skip Stanton Works4Him

We dove deep today into the faith walk of the owner of Aqua Plumbing and Air and heard how Skip’s journey with Christ has “changed his paradigm”.  We also got a look at how he came to be within his profession, what makes him a great boss (with a special guest chiming in) and his work with C12.  It was a powerful hour of discovery and witness.

Skip Stanton grew up in a Methodist home, but came into a personal relationship with Christ in his mid-twenties through a co-worker who shared the gospel with him at Sears. Skip took a page from that co-worker, bringing his faith into his company through biblical business practices.

A Practical Guide To Bringing Your Faith to Work

Have you ever wondered, "how does God look at my work?" or "How does the Gospel transform how I look at work?" Well, David Kim with the Center for Faith and Work joined us for an in-depth discussion on how we can effectively manifest the iWork4Him mission in our workplaces.

Have you ever wondered, "how does God look at my work?" or "how does the Gospel transform how I look at work?" Well, today, we want to introduce you to a brand-new resource you need to go and get immediately: The Faith and Work Bible. Today we talk with David Kim - the General Editor for the Faith and Work Bible Project and the Executive Director for the Center for Faith and Work in New York City - for an in-depth discussion on how we can effectively manifest the iWork4Him mission in our workplaces.

David dives deep with us into what the Bible says about our work, why it's essential, and how we can use that as an inspiration to bring light to our cubicles and coworkers. When we believe that Jesus is the Lord of the world, not just of our personal lives, we begin to realize that He cares about our work as much as every other area of our lives. All workmen, all callings, are sacred to God.

The Faith at Work Bible addresses three areas of transformation: to transform your motivation for work, transform your interactions with people at work, and transform the work itself.
