Ep 2063: Faith in Flight at DFW

Even if we don’t think about it, when we go to the airport, we surrender control. And that can be the perfect context for having an encounter with Jesus. In this episode of iWork4Him, hosts Jim and Martha Brangenberg welcome Greg McBrayer, Chief Flight Dispatcher and Corporate Chaplain at American Airlines. With over 46 years at American Airlines, Greg reflects on the huge impact 9/11 had on his life, when amidst the chaos he told God “we need You here” and God answered “that’s why I placed you here.” And soon after Greg became a chaplain.

There's often an overwhelming need for spiritual care in the aviation industry, especially during crises, and Greg’s presence has ministered to both employees and travelers at Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW). Last year alone, the 30 chaplains serving at DFW completed nearly 40,000 touchpoints, offering comfort and guidance to those in need.

Greg shares insights on integrating faith at work and building relationships with corporate leadership to foster a culture of care. He also discusses the growing need for chaplains in workplaces today, encouraging organizations to consider the benefits of spiritual care for employees. Even if you’re not a chaplain, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are a fantastic tool to show care for coworkers and customers. Tune in to hear how God is working through Greg to bring hope and support to many in the airline industry.

Ep 2062: A Conversation on Biblical Scaling

You’re in for a treat, hearing from Todd Hopkins, founder of Office Pride Commercial Cleaning and long-time friend of iWork4Him. Todd shares his inspiring journey of starting his business from humble beginnings and growing it into a national franchise while keeping the mission to honor God at the center. He dives into the challenges of scaling a business and why he chose franchising as a path to success, all while maintaining a focus on Kingdom impact.

Since Todd has a passion for teaching and pouring into others, he helped CBMC develop the Young Professionals program. In this show, he talks about his new venture starting in January 2025, the Strategic Thinking Network, a quarterly workshop series aimed at helping business owners scale both their business and spiritual influence. Get more information and sign up for what’s sure to be an incredible program at StrategicThinkingNetwork.com. Take advantage of an early bird registration discount of $500 by signing up before October 15th!

You’ll also be able to sneak a peek into one of Todd’s biblical business tools – a “considerations filter,” which helps him stay focused on God's purpose rather than ideas that might just be distractions. Whether you’re an aspiring entrepreneur or looking for new ways to scale, Todd’s story offers valuable insights for growing with purpose. Want to hear more from Todd? Ep 2061: Make Your Marriage and Business Work

Let’s discuss the challenges of balancing marriage and business with returning guests Robert and Kay Lee Fukui, authors of the book Tandem: The Married Entrepreneur’s Guide for Greater Work-Life Balance. They explore how entrepreneurs and pastors often struggle with balancing work and family, leading to marital neglect.

Robert and Kay Lee, drawing from their own experiences growing up in pastor and business owner families, share practical advice on maintaining a strong marriage while managing a business. Their focus is on building work-life balance through intentional practices like prayer, planning, and lots of communication. While perfect balance may not exist, properly prioritizing both work and family can prevent marital breakdowns.

The Fukuis’ book (now in audiobook format) offers strategies for couples facing these challenges, blending their expertise in entrepreneurship and marriage counseling to support listeners on their journey toward healthier relationships. Catch the Fukui’s special Valentine’s Day iWork4Him interview for more on this essential topic of strengthening your marriage!

Ep 2059: A Solution to the Tradesman Shortage

There’s a critical shortage of skilled tradespeople, but one man, Dave Hataj of Edgerton Gear, is addressing the problem head-on. Dave shares the inspiring story of how his company, facing a hiring crisis, developed the "Craftsman with Character" program to engage local high school students who are often overlooked by the traditional education system. This program, now a formal course in several Wisconsin schools, provides hands-on mentoring and character development, helping students discover their potential in the trades and instilling in them a sense of purpose and self-worth.

Dave's initiative is now expanding beyond Wisconsin, with other states taking notice of this innovative approach to bridging the skills gap and empowering the next generation of craftsmen. Even the US Navy has recruited his ingenuity as part of its submarine building plans. He emphasizes how God, a God of goodness, needs more good workers, and that’s Dave’s goal (which you can read more about in his book Good Work). We’re thankful that Dave said “yes” to returning to the family business (listen to that story in his previous interview) and is now making BIG waves for the Kingdom in the lives of so many across the country.

Ep 2058: An Encore with Impact

In this most recent show the Brangenbergs chat with Doug Hunter, a businessman who’s redefined retirement as anything but a time to kick back and relax. Doug’s story is one of transformation, sparked by a powerful encounter with God that shifted his life’s focus toward mentoring and serving others. Now in what many call the "retirement" phase, Doug has been busier than ever, from launching a leadership center at Charleston Southern University to sitting on several boards like the National Faith and Work Association.

Doug is a big advocate for mentoring, finding joy in guiding others while learning from them, too. His take on life after work is inspiring—full of purpose, passion, and faith. This episode is another great example of how intentionally pouring into others makes eternal impact. And Doug shows us that retirement can be the start of something new and exciting, where your faith can shine brighter than ever.

Ep 2057: Mentoring, Pass It On

We need the Church to act like the Church again, not a cruise ship! What needs to happen? Eric Fogg visits the podcast today to share his journey of mentoring business professionals. Intentional, focused mentoring has changed his life, and we’re positive it’s something the Church needs more of (think Paul, Barnabas, and Timothy).

Eric fills us in about Truth at Work and about how this ministry helps business owners and “emerging leaders” through their round table groups. Paul Dunteman, one of Eric's mentees, talks about how mentorship changed his life and career, emphasizing the importance of having someone more experienced to offer perspective. Eric encourages "chronologically superior” listeners to step into mentoring roles and younger ones to seek out a mentor ASAP. You can learn more about the Truth at Work groups by visiting their website.

Ep 2055: A Supernatural Journey in the Marketplace

Being a daily partner with God looks different than simply asking Him to bless our work. Bill Hollis, the founder of Ruach Ministries in Johannesburg, South Africa, takes us through his fascinating journey to faith, sparked by God surrounding him with Christian colleagues and an intriguing book on near-death experiences. This newfound faith shifted his worldview, transforming his workplace into a mission field.

Bill’s career took many twists and turns, guided by faith, divine nudges, and lessons learned. He stresses the value of partnering with fellow believers and explains the difference between Christian businesses and Kingdom businesses, where Jesus is the CEO. His upcoming book, A Supernatural Journey in the Marketplace: Money, Marketplace, and God, offers his unedited life stories and practical advice for running a Kingdom-focused organization. Bill wants you to see your workplace as mission field and to collaborate with God in all business ventures.

The “takeaway” Bill wants you to remember: Make your requests known to God. He’s faithful to hear us!

Ep 2054: Be a Catalyst of “With”

Let's discuss the transformative concept of "working with God" rather than just "working for God." Host Jim Brangenberg highlights that while "iWork4Him" has been a longstanding statement of faith, there’s a deeper shift needed. We’re glad to welcome back Shae Bynes to the show, who shares her journey of understanding this shift.

Shae recounts a pivotal moment 12 years ago when she realized the importance of working with God, inspired by Matthew 11:28-30. This approach goes beyond traditional achievement-driven faith, advocating for a more intimate and collaborative relationship with God. Shae explains that cultivating this relationship involves engaging God in everyday decisions and seeking His guidance in all aspects of life, from work to personal matters.

Moving from a "working for God" mindset to a "working with God" mindset can revolutionize how you live out their faith as a believer. Shae concludes by urging listeners to embrace this shift as a fundamental aspect of their calling, aiming to fully embody and express God's presence in their daily lives. Start small, including God in some area of your life you’ve never invited Him into before.

We partner with incredible Kingdom-driven sponsors who make this show possible, like SaferNet, a VPN, antivirus, web filters, and internet controls to keep you, your loved ones, and even your workforce safe on their devices.
