Ep 2053: What’s Up (and Down) with the Brangenbergs?

The iWork4Him Podcast is dedicated to bringing you inspiring and encouraging stories of workplace believers around the world, but today we’re taking some time to hear from Jim and Martha about what’s been going on in their lives this year and what future plans God is ushering them into. It’s been a tough 2024 – the loss of multiple friends, various struggles with family health, and the upheaval of their “empty nester” lifestyle. Jim and Martha are learning a lot about the power of prayer and “leaning not on their own understanding.”

Even with the bad, there’s always many things to be thankful for. As they continue to reflect, fun but challenging DIY projects, faith and work events, opportunities in their small town of Marionville, and exciting new podcasts are brought up in the conversation. What are they most looking forward to? What God has in store for iWork4Him, of course! He’s been guiding the Brangenbergs in the Shift to With movement – where workplace believers start working intimately with God instead of just for Him. A new book announcement was also made! Keep tuning in to hear more about the importance of strengthening your marriage and be on the lookout next year for Get the Hell Out of Your Marriage to be released.

Events and resources mentioned in the show:

Ep 2052: The Word at Work

Miranda Carls shows us the need for faith and work fellowship and connection no matter where we live or what we do. She shares her faith journey, highlighting how her early Christian upbringing shaped her to be a committed Christian instead of nominal one and discusses her passion for people development and how it aligns with her mission to support Christians in the workplace.

You’ll get introduced to her book and podcast, The Word at Work, resources that help Christian professionals be… the Word at work! You’ll also hear about the upcoming Gateway Faith and Work event on September 7th, a symposium aimed to equip Christians for workplace excellence, faithful living, and community building. Miranda emphasizes the need for collaboration among local churches and ministries to foster a unified Christian presence in St. Louis workplaces.

You can get more information and register for the September 7th event at GatewayFaithandWork.com. And we want to make sure you’re able to really apply her 3 takeaways:

  1. Make time to fellowship with another believer, sharing workplace and life challenges.

  2. Have focused time with Jesus Monday thru Friday.

  3. Grow in your understanding of how work outside of church walls can grow the Kingdom.

Ep 2051: Work – an Extension of Your Faith

It must be hard living out your faith at work when your job is at Microsoft, right? Well, Lori Kim tells us about all the resources and reasons she’s able to be a bright light for Christ there! Her journey starts as an immigrant and pastor's kid, facing cultural and language barriers while striving for perfection. During a challenging period of loss, including her father's battle with cancer and her own job loss, Lori experienced a profound faith transformation. Through prayer and a new perspective, she began to see her work as a mighty extension of her faith.

At Microsoft, Lori is active in a Christian employee community group called Marketplace Ministry for Microsoft (MMFM), engaging in weekly Bible studies, prayer meetings and wisdom discussion groups that foster community and spiritual growth. She also serves with the Chicago Faith & Work Movement and the Religious Freedom & Business Foundation. Listeners – and especially Christian working women – are left with Lori’s 3 pieces of sage advice:

  1. Embrace all that God made you to be.

  2. No matter the situation, keep praying!

  3. Bless yourself with sacred rhythms of rest.

Ep 2049: Creation Requires a Creator

Welcome back to the second part of Nick Cinelli’s iWork4Him interview! Nick recaps his story and answers more questions regarding the 2+ years of research he completed, finding many facets of science just don’t seem to measure up. Research that began with trying to prove his then girlfriend Sue wrong about the Bible led Nick to compelling evidence that supported the biblical account of creation over the theory of evolution. This shift was pivotal, leading him to embrace Christianity and ultimately marry Sue, despite initial conflicts in their beliefs.

Nick explains how his scientific inquiry led him to conclude that a Creator is essential for the existence of life, making atheistic views illogical. He discusses how Jesus’ claims and resurrection set Christianity apart from other religions. Through his journey, Nick found deeper respect and connection with Sue, as they continue to grow in their faith together. He remains hopeful that more scientists will recognize the evidence for Creation. Nick’s story is a testament to the transformative power of love, faith, and the relentless pursuit of Truth. Ep 2048: Where Science Falls Short

In this special 2-part iWork4Him interview, Jim interviews Nick Cinelli, a phenomenal salesperson and tremendous networker. Nick shares his transformative journey from a staunch believer in science to a devout follower of Jesus. Initially dismissive of God, Nick's perspective shifts after meeting Sue, a believer, at a dance club. Motivated to prove Sue wrong, Nick dives into scientific research, only to find inconsistencies and mistakes at every corner. This quest leads him to question the reliability of science compared to the consistent message of the Bible.

Nick's findings reveal that there are many scientists that actually reject evolution, favoring creationism instead. Through this process, Nick transitioned from atheism to faith in Christ, discovering that the Bible offers explanations where science falls short. The episode concludes with a tease for the next part of Nick's story, promising more insights into his research and faith journey. Tune in to part 1, and get ready for part 2 next week!

Ep 2047: A New Type of Legacy

Imagine the gift of being able to intentionally speak to your loved ones at special moments in their lives, and even after you’re gone. Meet Sandy Wheeler, a retirement-aged businessman who found new purpose after leading companies like Nautilus, Bowflex, and Schwinn Fitness. Sandy shares a little bit of his journey, from surviving a military assignment in Vietnam to discovering his need for Jesus all the way to incredibly transformative moments that have shaped his entire outlook on life.

Through these events, God led him to the realization that 100% of people will experience grief and bereavement at some point in their lives. How can we take a time of grief and make it into message of hope and legacy? Sandy introduces his latest venture, "Life's Thoughts" and "Life's Final Thoughts," which help individuals leave a lasting legacy through archival video recordings. These messages can be sent to your family and friends for significant occasions like weddings or graduations, or even at the time of your passing.

The Life’s Final Thoughts app is in the Google and Apple app stores. Get more info on how it works and how to download and get started. Listen in and be inspired to leave a legacy that goes beyond material assets, reaching hearts and minds for years to come!

Ep 2046: Contentment vs. Complacency

In this episode, hosts Jim and Martha welcomed Aaron "Big A" Walker out of Hendersonville, Tennessee. 6’4” 240lb Big A is the powerhouse behind View from the Top, where he helps men gain clarity and define true success.

Aaron's journey is nothing short of inspiring. A life-changing accident in 2001 along with a 5-year work hiatus shifted his focus from chasing financial success to seeking significance, emphasizing the difference in contentment and complacency. His coaching programs are a beacon for men seeking balance and purpose in personal, relational, professional, spiritual, and financial realms.

Aaron passionately talks about his structured approach, including the transformative "Come as You Will Be" program, robust accountability measures, and energizing bi-annual events. He insists on keeping Christ at the center, followed by family, and then business.

Looking ahead, Aaron envisions View from the Top becoming a household name, transforming lives globally. To dive deeper into his vision and programs, visit viewfromthetop.com. And don’t forget the two pieces of advice he left us with: “fear missing an opportunity more than you fear failure” and his mom’s quote “can’t couldn’t do it, and could did it all.”
