For most people, Christmas is an exciting time of year; a time to get together with family, to see little ones open gifts and run around. But for some of us, it brings a stark reminder of how much time has passed and how many friends or loved ones have gone home before us. There are a lot of mixed emotions that end up surrounding this annual celebration of Christ’s birth. What is it like for you? Does it bring joy, or stress, or sorrow? Does it remind you of warm fond memories or does it remind you of a spouse or child or other family member that isn’t there to be with you?

Fast forward to today, and over 80% of the population doesn’t even go to church. Back when you started thinking about retirement, a million dollars was a lot of money, but now the average house in America costs almost ½ a million.

Prepping for Retirement 101. When we step into our retirement years, we step into a world of wonder. A world we have dreamt about for decades and a world that can sometimes be filled with worry, fear, and doubt. It all comes down to attitude. But I’m not there yet. I will be 55 this year and I still have time to plan. I know I will face a road with a t intersection. I know that if I take a left, it will lead me down the road of self-focus with my retirement years focused on me and my wants. I also know that if I take a right turn, it will lead me down the road of being others focused which is a road paved with good intentions and marked with acts of service and making a difference.
