iRetire4Him Show #41 - #5 of 11-part series The Culture and Retirement

The concept and reality of retirement in the US is a rare social construct. The ability and the assumed right to be non-productive and still retain full social status in society is an American thing. Work is a way of providing for life expenses and retirement. The American perspective is that leisure is the extended right that should be available for all and supported by society. Each person in uniquely responsible for managing their retirement years. While retirement is represented to be a time divorced from financial and social stress, it is in fact the most complex time of life and is reported to be “not for sissies”. For the Christian, it is an even more complex time and Christ followers are impacted by the culture and challenged by Jesus commands. Today we start a series exploring cultures impact on how we live in retirement compared to the Christian world view of living in retirement. We will be releasing this podcast series every other week. When we do, we will give you what you need to know and how we can respond as Christ followers who affirm a lifestyle of iRetire4Him. Here to work through the cultural impacts on retirement is Bruce Bruinsma with www.RetirementReformation.org

iRetire4Him Show #36 - #4 of 4-part series, When Retirement Plans Unravel

We start preparing for retirement, almost on the first day of our working life. If we work for a larger company, they make us start saving right away. But in reality, saving money for retirement is only part of the planning for retirement. How much money is nice to know and hard to save but also, where to live, who to live nearby, what are we going to do to occupy our time, where will we vacation and what about the grandkids? So many things to consider and then with iRetire4Him – we are also asking you to consider “What does God want me to do with our retirement years? All this planning is great and very Necessary but what happens when your plans unravel/change/implode? What do you do then? That’s what this 4-part series is all about. So many times, we make plans, but life throws us a curveball and we were looking for a changeup. Here to parse through this with me is Bruce Bruinsma with www.RetirementReformation.org

iRetire4Him Show #32 - Making a Difference, Part 4 Our Plan (the Plan of a 55yr Old)

Prepping for Retirement 101. When we step into our retirement years, we step into a world of wonder. A world we have dreamt about for decades and a world that can sometimes be filled with worry, fear, and doubt. It all comes down to attitude. But I’m not there yet. I will be 55 this year and I still have time to plan. I know I will face a road with a t intersection. I know that if I take a left, it will lead me down the road of self-focus with my retirement years focused on me and my wants. I also know that if I take a right turn, it will lead me down the road of being others focused which is a road paved with good intentions and marked with acts of service and making a difference. So, it’s my turn to talk with Bruce Bruinsma, the founder of the Retirement Reformation, about what it looks like to prepare for my retirement years to be focused on making a difference while we specifically address my story of “I’m turning 55 this year, am I ready and preparing for my retirement years.”
