What I Want To Learn In 2018 - Part II

BE SLOW TO SPEAK

God has given me a bible verse to focus on in 2018: James 1:19 - james the brother of Jesus says:

19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters:

You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.

What does it look like to be slow to speak?

When someone is talking – you let them finish.

When someone is talking – you listen to what they are saying instead of thinking about what you will say next.  When someone is talking – and then pauses, you repeat back what they said, and then comment if needed.

It may mean, waiting to send the email response – or even deleting it!  (Did you listen to our show on 12/8/17?) https://www.iwork4him.com/podcast/2017/12/before-you-hit-send

When we are slow to speak – we protect ourselves from ourselves. As it says in Proverbs 17:28 (NLT)

28 Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

When we are slow to speak – it saves us from having to insert a foot in our mouths and can prevent pain.

I want this life, so I will keep practicing James 1:19!
