Fast, Faster, Fastest

We all seem to be in a contest.  A contest to see who can cram the most into any given day, week, year and life.  If you sit back and read a book, enjoy a sunset, or watch a movie, we can feel guilty for simply enjoying the pleasures of life. There are things to do, places to go and people to see. There is no rest for the weary. There is a saying:

“I will sleep when I am dead.”

Of all these things I have ranted about, all of them apply to me.

I don’t know how to rest.

I don’t know how to sit back and relax. For the last 50 years, I have been on the run doing, completing, accomplishing, and conquering. “To what end?,” I might ask myself, and you.

Psalm 46:10 says :

"Be Still and know I am God”

and Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

My goal for 2017 is to pursue that rest with a passion. I want to know God and in order to know God, I have to be still. In order to be still, I have to lay my burdens at the feet of Jesus.

Be still. Jim
